Tech days for this worn TV stand were over. It was time for a glamorous makeover!
A friend mentioned she was looking for a bench for the foot of her bed. I suggested this free item on our local BuyNothing group. (If you haven’t heard of these groups, look into them on Facebook. It’s amazing what you can get from your neighbors for FREE! And it’s a great place to unload stuff you no longer want.)
The first step was filling in the dings and painting the body of the bench. My friend picked out this fabulous teal shade – “Rio” from Farmhouse Paints. You might recognize it from last week’s post about my upcycled table seat. This bench was already looking more exciting.
Then I added a slab of 2-inch thick foam to the top. I overlaid this with a generous layer of batting for comfort.
Since we were looking to blend in with my friend’s existing decor, we kept the fabric neutral. The teal paint and eye-catching throw pillows would add the pops of color this bench would need.
I secured the fabric in place with my trusty Surebonder pneumatic staple gun. Then I added matching double-welt trim to the edges to cover the staples. So many possibilities ahead with my new double-welting foot for my sewing machine!
Now this bench was ready for its debut.
Doesn’t this look charming?
This bench fits in beautifully with my friend’s cottage decor. And it ended up being just the right length for the end of the bed — serendipity! It’s always great to see my pieces in their new homes and to know what might have been discarded now has a second chance.
Many thanks to my friend for the opportunity to work on this fun project.
