Furniture salve is amazing!
Wood, like skin, needs moisturizing periodically to keep its glow and suppleness. Sometimes I have an item in my workshop that just needs to be refreshed because the wood has dried and there are minor imperfections that need TLC. Enter furniture salve!
There are a number of furniture salves on the market, but the one I’ve recently discovered is Wise Owl® (wiseowlpaint.com). (BTW, I’m not getting any benefit from this company for discussing its product — I just like it!) This hemp oil-based salve comes in a collection of lovely scents as well as unscented. I was skeptical of the claims of the miracles it would work on furniture, but I wanted to test it on my 1990s cherry dining room table.
You apply the salve with a lint-free cloth or a palm brush. I used a palm brush and applied the lemon-verbena version in a circular motion for the first pass. Then I buffed the excess with a lint-free cloth following the grain of the wood. You can judge for yourself below, but I was amazed at the difference.
Like New!
The wood is positively glowing. Can you believe this table is nearly thirty years old? Minor scratches and dings just disappeared. The product claims to impart water resistance as well, which is a bonus. And my dining room smells amazing now!
I’ve tried this product on a few other items with equally successful results. (For example: Vintage Oval-Back Chair: From Beige to BAM!) If you have a piece of furniture needing some TLC to restore its luster, give furniture salve a try.
