Dresser Makeover: From Pfft to POP!

I’ve really been wanting to do a serpentine (curved front) dresser. This was in great condition but the design was, well, not to my taste. Grab a tub of popcorn and watch this piece POP!

Step One: Heating Up the Oil

First, I removed the old tarnished hardware and cleaned the whole piece. Then I primed with Zinsser® BIN shellac-based primer. I left the original teal factory finish inside the drawers for a bit of pizzazz.

Step Two: Adding the Kernels

To begin, I flipped the piece over and painted the bun feet a metallic gold that would match the new hardware. (Yes, it would have been easier to unscrew the feet, but I couldn’t get them off!)

Then I applied MANY coats of Farmhouse® Paint’s “Old Navy”. There are two camps for those who paint furniture: brushers and sprayers. I prefer to brush because sprayers require a lot of water for cleanup and also aerosolize paint into the air (not in keeping with my eco-friendly goals). Instead, I mist with water as I brush to get a smooth finish that minimizes brush strokes.

Next, I protected the paint with Minwax® Polycrylic. I don’t usually show this step but I was especially happy with the glossy finish on this one!

Step Three: The POP!

The gold bun feet looked great with the navy blue, but it all really came together with these posh round drawer pulls.

Lastly, I added colorful drawer liner to pull together the navy exterior and teal interior colors.

So great it’s like getting extra butter for free!

This dresser will be a classy addition to someone’s home soon!
